Victory already

by Joel Howard

You've won

Said a voice

Gently interrupting my striving

You've won

Said a voice

I, lifting my eyes, seeing

I've won

That means striving

Can stop

And can cease

That means you

And that means me

As if a finish line has been crossed

And all this extra

Is just time lost

No condemnation

Just a quiet release

This doesn't matter

Past tense victory

We've crossed the line!

Victory already!

This changes everything

Come celebrate!
Victory already

We stand at the gate
