Days of affliction
Days of affliction
by Joel Howard
"And now my soul is poured out within me; days of affliction have taken hold of me." Job 30:16, ESV
Days, not minutes
Days, not hours
Days and days
A lasting time
Father, Spirit,
Jesus, come
Days and days
of pain are mine
Both mystery
And persecution, I see
With violence
So intense now to me
Have I loved myself?
Have I acted in pride?
Have I hated the poor?
Claimed gold as my life?
That I am laid low?
That I am laid bare?
Is it for my sin
That you have me here?
As a prisoner in jail
Counts days on the wall
So I am imprisoned
God, who hears my call?
What friends have I now
who rightly see me?
Who see me as You do
and with justice decree?
I would not trust you
O brothers around
Your immature thoughts
Maintain only my frown
I've poured out my soul
Inside of itself
Days of affliction
Have me enveloped
Loneliness is
my only dear friend
Has ever it left me?
Has it ever an end?
