Biography series: Mozart

Puzzling
by Joel Howard
Inspired by the later years and life of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart

That you died
At age 35
That your funeral
Was a mere common one
Yet you paraded throughout the land
Pen in hand, thrilling the masses
A child prodigy

It is puzzling
Such a young death
An untimely death
Your popularity
while great in life
quiet at death
nursed at bedside
by your wife, then died
fame skyrocketed after that, but
You weren't there for that!
Such an ordinary end

I find myself standing there
Beside your grave
With the few there
No mourners in attendance
It is puzzling
Almost like the eye in the hurricane
Big before, made big after
But at your death, a quiet hour
