I want to go back home

I want to go back home
by Joel Howard

The world speeds ahead
My brain is affected
The culture roams and roams
My soul feels lost with it
The church seems impacted
Many lost and alone
Devils are pressing
I want to go back home

There is a pace around us
"Faster, bigger, better, best"
There's an attack on our childhood
A struggle against rest
My friends tell me to "get more"
I want and I lack
Satan would undo me
I want to go back

Go back to the ancient times
Before the earth began
Return to the Father
Who knows no lack
Head home and scorn the shame
Count all things as lost
I want what I was made for
I want to go back home

The next generation is pushing and swarming
Afraid to be seen, to be known, to be loved
Assuming they must prove in order to be
They need a Father, a father in me
Our children are starving, told to pretend they are fine
Leaders drunk on adultery, drunk with wine
Masking our idolatry, calling it good
Our families are freezing up
Perpetuating falsehood

The whole world is watching, heaven as well
As is the accuser, and the flames of hell
We think its a game, we think we see well
But we perceive dimly, and only in part
Gratitude and forgiveness are my fire inside
Taking me back to a safe place to reside
When I forget the words of others and retreat back
I thank God that he knows me and that I'm alive

I go back to the ancient times
Before the earth began
Return to the Father
Who never has known lack
Head home and scorn the shame
Counting all things as lost
I want what I was made for
I want to go back home
I want what I was made for
I want to go back home
