Matters in our own hands

Matters in our own hands
by Joel Howard

After victory, David laughed
Bored out of his mind
I can - I can - I can
But lo and behold on that roof
He took matters into his own hands
Confusing, as we, the spoil of victory
With things that do not belong to me
Lusting after things, you see
Like David, like we

We take matters into our own hands
We confuse the present with yesterday's command
Manna was there but today we haven't
Sought God for this new today

We unpack what spoiled yesterday
And try to eat it anyway
Like David, we oft go astray
Taking matters into our own hands
Taking matters into our own hands

I, alone, have sinned
Late, we own it
Confronted by our wicked ways
O how we have strayed
O how we have strayed!

We take matters into our own hands
God bless us all! But fail again
We seek him not, like our fathers did
Have we forgot?  We must all decide

To take matters out of our own hands
To fully grasp his grace again
To slow down when all else are fast
Stop taking matters in our own hands
And listen for his sure command
God, restore us once again!
